Kull

Uno de los mejores recuerdos de mi niñez es cuando visitaba a unos primos míos, mucho más mayores que yo, que eran coleccionistas de comics. Me sumergía en sus colecciones durante horas, disfrutando las historias como el enano que era. Y los comics de Conan y similares eran parte importante de esa colección. Allí fue cuando conocí a Kull.

Kull de Atlantis, Kull de Valusia o Kull el Conquistador es un personaje ficticio creado por Robert E. Howard, que aunque comparte mismo universo que Conan, vivió en una era anterior, la llamada Era Thuria, que termino con la destrucción del continente de Atlantis.

En tiempos de la vida de Kull, Atlantis estaba gobernada por tribus bárbaras. Al este se encontraba el antiguo continente de Thuria, dividido entre varios reinos civilizados: Commoria, Grondar, Kamelia, Thule, Verulia y el más poderoso de todos, Valusia. Al este de Thuria se encontraban las islas de Lemuria.

Kull procedía de una tribu del Valle del Tigre, en Atlantis, pero tanto su tribu como su valle natal fueron destruidos por una inundación a la que Kull sobrevivió siendo todavía un niño. Fue capturado por otra tribu y adoptado por la misma. El adolescente Kull dio una muerte rápida a una mujer que iba a ser quemada viva y debido a ello fue exiliado de Atlantis.

Y así comenzó su vida aventurera, siendo esclavo, pirata, ladrón, gladiador y finalmente mercenario dentro de las filas del ejército de Valusia, en donde destaco y llego a ser el comandante de las fuerzas mercenarias. Pero cuando se desato la guerra civil en Valusia, aprovecho el momento, asesino al tirano y reclamo el trono.

Robert E. Howard escribió solo unos pocos relatos sobre este personaje, pero ha disfrutado de una buena vida gracias a los comics, en los que tuvo diversas adaptaciones, cromos, juguetes, e incluso se llego a realizar una película basada en él, siendo interpretado por el actor Kevin Sorbo, que bien puede ser olvidada...

En 2008 Dark Horse se hizo con los derechos de explotación de Kull para los cómics y puso en circulación varias colecciones y lanzamientos especiales con nuevas aventuras del personaje, asi como reediciones, que son las que os ofrecemos hoy aqui.
